Recognition
CHEA
The ABAI Accreditation Board is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).
The Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) is a nonprofit, nongovernmental institutional membership organization that “recognizes” accrediting organizations or periodically reviews their effectiveness in assuring and improving quality in higher education. CHEA, as a national coordinating body for U.S. accreditation, also serves as an advocacy organization, an accreditation research and policy body and a convener and partner to address international quality assurance issues. CHEA currently recognizes approximately 60 regional, national career-related, national faith-related and programmatic accrediting organizations.
At its meeting on May 3, 2021, the CHEA Board of Directors reviewed the recommendation of the CHEA Committee on Recognition regarding the recognition application submitted by the Association for Behavior Analysis International Accreditation Board ABAI. The Board of Directors accepted the committee recommendation and recognized ABAI for the following recognized scope of accreditation: The Accreditation Board of the Association for Behavior Analysis International accredits degree programs in behavior analysis at the master's and doctoral levels in institutions of higher learning in the United States of America. (2021)
Our recognized scope of accreditation is limited to the master’s and doctoral levels in the U.S. because the Board has developed a sufficient track record in these areas. The Board will continue to accredit baccalaureate programs in the U.S. and international programs at the baccalaureate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Within the next five years, we expect to apply for a change to our CHEA-recognized scope to include these activities.
The purpose of CHEA recognition is to provide assurance to the public that accrediting organizations are competent to engage in quality review of institutions and programs based on the standards that CHEA has developed, which are presented in the CHEA Recognition Policy and Procedures.
